Backpacks

September 3, 2011

The first week of school is finished. Students have been read the riot act and know the rules of the school and the classroom. On Friday, students received their textbooks and workbooks. For my class, both the history and literature textbooks are to remain at home. They do not need to bring them to school as I have class sets of both. Students will need to bring their history workbook (Interactive Reader...) to class each day. For English, students have two workbooks: Writing and Grammar and Reader's Notebook. These need to be brought to class as needed.

For the second week of school, students should have their supplies: pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, etc. This leads me to another point, students should use their lockers to store materials that they need for specific classes rather than stuff everything into their backpacks. I found an article in the Wall Street Journal that discusses the danger of overstuffed backpacks: How Heavy Can a School Backpack Get?
